The top articles for the February 7, 1987 edition were that a new manufacturing company was set to come to Scottsville, where it would produce garments such as “popular-priced jeans” and sportswear that were sold in large chain stores.

Bill Lessiter, the president of Skiffs Sportswear of Sparta, Tennessee, explained that he chose Scottsville because he was informed that “Allen County had a good supply of well-trained people that could easily be trained to our methods of operation, so we can start producing a quality product.”

Additionally, the north section of the 31-E bypass was opened on Tuesday, February 3, 1987, with bids having been awarded to Codell Construction Company of Winchester, Kentucky, in June of 1983 to construct the bypass.

The two-lane bypass connected Ky. 100 west of Scottsville to U.S. 31-E near Jefferson School Road, with the south section of the bypass later being completed in 1989.

Another contract for surfacing was awarded to Scotty’s Contracting of Bowling Green, Kentucky, during May in 1986.

The Citizen-Times, consolidated of The Citizen (1908) and Allen County Times (1890) on Oct. 10, 1918, has proudly served Scottsville and Allen County for 135 years.
