This Week in Citizen-Times History (May 20, 2025)

The May 18, 1972 edition of The Citizen-Times saw the announcement of a banquet held in celebration of Scottsville High School’s athletic accomplishments at the Lodge at Barren River State Resort Park.
The banquet was held in light of the accomplishment of the boy’s basketball and baseball teams, with several players receiving awards.
At the banquet, the head coach for Western Kentucky University at the time, Jim Richards, “entertained the crowd” with amusing stories before giving “five keys to being a champion.”
Richards explained that these five keys included making an effort to utilize talent, learning to sacrifice, dedication, having a plan in mind, and “taking God with you in everything.”
Coach Lyle Dunbar gave basketball awards, consisting of the most valuable player award, which was tied with Michael Petty and Dickie Keffer, the rebounding award which was given to Les McDonald, and the free throw awards, which were given to to Eddie Massey and Eddie Gerald, with the senior basketball awards being given to Bill Harper and Eddie Gerald.
Coach Roger Alteri gave baseball awards, consisting of leading base stealer, which was given to Jimmy Law, Tim Hobdy with the most runs batted in, Jeff Williams as the pitcher with the best earned run average, and Roger Nichols with the best attitude.
The Citizen-Times, consolidated of The Citizen (1908) and Allen County Times (1890) on Oct. 10, 1918, has proudly served Scottsville and Allen County for 135 years.
