This Week in Citizen-Times History (August 27, 2025)

The August 28, 1958 edition of The Citizen-Times saw the announcement that A2c Robert Steinberger, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Steinberger, was to be stationed in France with an Air Police Unit.
Steinberger graduated from Allen County High School in 1955, and would joined the military in October of that year, before receiving basic training in New York at Samson Air Force Base.
Similarly, it was announced that Army Specialist Six Aaron B. Calvert was stationed in France as well, being assigned to the 34th General Hospital as a supplyman, after having been stationed at Fort Knox after his enlistment in 1942, after which he was awarded with the Combat Medical Badge.
Additionally, it was announced that the Health Center’s location would be determined in Louisville which would go on to be built in Scottsville.
John Dunker, an engineer, and Harold Burress, a field representative, had surveyed seven possible sites for the center, and met with Dr. A.O. Miller, Rev. Norris Hite, Fred Hale, Judge James Secrest, Tom Crow, Jr., Dr. O. L. Davis, Dr. Earl Oliver, Vesper Jones, and Mr. Morton, an architect who was hired by the Fiscal Court.
It was also announced that Roy Rogers, a former 4-H member, would be at the Kentucky State Fair on September 4-7 with Dale Evans, The Sons of Pioneers, and “his whole company.” The fair ran from September 4 through September 13.
The Citizen-Times, consolidated of The Citizen (1908) and Allen County Times (1890) on Oct. 10, 1918, has proudly served Scottsville and Allen County for 135 years.
