This Week in Citizen-Times History (September 2, 2025)

The September 2, 1999 edition of The Citizen-Times saw the announcement that the Rotary Club of Scottsville partnered with Rotary International to provide a means to contribute money to those affected by the earthquake in Turkey that year, which had a magnitude of 7.6.

The Rotary Club and its members had given more than $600 at the time of publication, being sent to a committee of Turkish Rotarians, with all contributions being spent directly for disaster relief.

Additionally, the Second Law Enforcement District of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife awarded two awards to Allen County Officer Brett Zalla, being selected by his fellow officers to receive Officer of the Year, and the Shaikar Safari Award.

Officer of the Year was awarded to Zalla for being a well-rounded officer who excels in his job, as well as in community service, with the Shaikar Safari award being granted to the top conservation and boating officer.

During the presentation committee, the Second District officials praised Zalla for going above and beyond his normal duties, getting involved with the community, being able to learn from fellow officers, and developed the professionalism needed for the job.

It was also announced that the newest season of football at AC-S High School was underway, with an opening game filling Patriot Stadium, and winning 14-0 over Monroe County.

The Citizen-Times, consolidated of The Citizen (1908) and Allen County Times (1890) on Oct. 10, 1918, has proudly served Scottsville and Allen County for 135 years.
