Dogs, Dog Lovers Enjoy Paws in the Park

The Third Annual Paws in the Park event was held on Saturday, May 17, at the Dugas Community Park, where several families were able to meet other dogs in the community.

The event started at 10:30 a.m. and was hosted by the Friends of Allen County Animal Shelter, with several vendors and sponsors being at the event.

“We are eternally grateful, and the park is really grateful to all of our partners,” D Porter, the Director of Development & Community Engagement at the park, explained in a previous interview. “(...) We are really grateful for the Friends of Allen County Animal Shelter leadership team, as they really stepped up to the plate when we made this ask. It was an immediate yes, and the collaboration has been absolutely wonderful.”

Friends of Allen County Animal Shelter is a nonprofit organization with the goal of improving conditions at the local animal shelter and expanding access to affordable spay and neuter services.

Under the direction of their president, Arrington Richer, Friends of Allen County Animal Shelter wanted to use the event to promote adoption, with them continuing their tradition of free adoptions.

“We really want to highlight dog adoptions, specifically,” Richer explained in a previous interview. “Adoption rates are extremely low in our county, so our main goal is to bring awareness to the shelter itself and let people know it’s over there.”

Two of the sponsors, being Caldwell Banker Legacy Group and the Hunt Dream Team, sponsored the fees for all adoptions at the event, allowing patrons to freely adopt a pet.

“This event is very near and dear to my heart,” Shannon Hunt of the Hunt Dream Team expressed. “I am a dog lover myself, and just seeing these dogs adopted is just a true joy. I’m so thankful for all the vendors that have participated for this.”

Scottsville Opry A Highlight of 2025 Jacksonian Festival

People love seeing local talent get their time to shine. For several years, that time has come during the weekend of Scottsville’s Jacksonian Festival in which the performers get to try their hand...er, voice...at portraying some of the biggest names in Country Music, Bluegrass and Gospel. The show, once known as “The Grandest Ole Opry” until a name change was made to “The Scottsville Opry” last year, takes some of its cues from “The show that made Country Music Famous” while taking other cues from the old variety show “Hee-Haw” and combines them into something uniquely Allen County.
