New Thai Restaurant Opens on Square
Lyn Changsuk and her husband recently opened Thai Orchid on the square, with several people in the community coming out and showing their support. Changsuk wanted to fill the vacuum for Thai food in the city, as the closest place for such food was Bowling Green. “Last year I had been here visiting my friends, and I love Scottsville, I love the people here, they’re nice, and I saw that they don’t have much Asian food here,” Changsuk explained. “So, it was a good chance that if we were here, we could open a Thai restaurant.”

Positioned where Beautiful You Cafe resided at 108 East Public Square, Thai Orchid is the newest restaurant to open in downtown Scottsville.
The restaurant serves a wide variety of Thai food, including, but not limited to, Pad Thai, orange chicken and curry, along with several Thai drinks, like their Thai tea, which is a mix of tea and milk.
Lyn Changsuk and her husband are both owners of the restaurant, and wanted to share their home recipe and allow people to try their authentic food from Thailand.
“Last year I had been here visiting my friends, and I love Scottsville, I love the people here, they’re nice, and I saw that they don’t have much Asian food here,” Changsuk explained. “So, it was a good chance that if we were here, we could open a Thai restaurant.”
Changsuk expressed that people who wanted Thai food would have had to drive to Bowling Green for the closest restaurant, and after being introduced to the space, knew that it was just right.
“It’s not too big, and not too small, because we are a family business, so it’s a good start,” Changsuk said.
John Buchannon, right, was one of the community members invited out to Thai Orchid to sample their food. The event was a collaborative effort with Holly Wood and Changsuk to celebrate the opening. “I’m very happy that people will come,” Changsuk expressed. “Like my neighbor, she put on Facebook that she had come in here, and she put the pictures and people that follow her on Facebook had come to eat here, and I’m so happy because they said that they’ll share with their family and then they come back again. It’s a big surprise for me.”
Changsuk added that she was surprised by how much the community had come out and shown support for the business, having done no prior advertising.
“I’m very happy that people will come,” Changsuk expressed. “Like my neighbor, she put on Facebook that she had come in here, and she put the pictures and people that follow her on Facebook had come to eat here, and I’m so happy because they said that they’ll share with their family and then they come back again. It’s a big surprise for me.”
To celebrate the opening, Changsuk along with Holly Wood, helped to organize an event where community members were invited out and given a sampling of food offered at the restaurant.
Changsuk added that they plan to expand their online presence as well, already having a Facebook page, with online ordering being considered, along with DoorDash and UberEats.
“If I want to be here, because I like the location already, I have to do the business,” Changsuk said. “Thai food is like my family business, so it’s helping me do that.”
Thai Orchid is open on Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., with plans for Sundays to be open from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
“Thank you so much for coming by and supporting us, because we are new here, and we are new for Scottsville and the square,” Changsuk expressed. “I’m happy that people will come out.”
Orchid’s location had previously been Beautiful You Cafe, having recently closed in May, which allowed for the perfect space to open in. “It’s not too big, and not too small, because we are a family business, so it’s a good start,” Changsuk said.
