This Week in Citizen-Times History (August 5, 2025)

The August 7, 1975 edition of The Citizen-Times saw the announcement that rain had brought relief to a dry spell that had gripped most areas of Kentucky.

Up to that point, crops had been suffering from a lack of soil moisture, with it affecting central and eastern Kentucky the most, with the rain helping the corn and soybeans planted there.

Additionally, it was announced that there would be a meeting held at the Barren County Courthouse concerning the implementation of a “comprehensive lakeshore management plan.”

The U.S. Corps of Engineers, who conducted the meeting, exchanged information with those interested in the development of the land around the lake, including zoning of the shoreline in a number of divisions, for private development, and no development.

The Allen County Board of Education met in their office building on East Maple Street for a regular meeting, where they approved a pay raise for teachers, amounting to $200 for each teacher.

It was announced that the Patriot football team was preparing for their upcoming season, with a total of 44 candidates being prepared for their opening game, which was held on August 29 against the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats.

The team was under the direction of Coach Bob Driver, and Assistant Coaches Royce Hood and David Young.

The Citizen-Times, consolidated of The Citizen (1908) and Allen County Times (1890) on Oct. 10, 1918, has proudly served Scottsville and Allen County for 135 years.
