There is good news and bad news following the Allen County-Scottsville Patriot football opener last Friday night in the Cole Lumber Bowl at Greenwood High School. The bad news first–Station Camp cruised to a 48-6 win. The good news is that it was the first game of the year against a strong rising program from Gallatin. Station Camp also exposed areas the Patriots will need to work on going forward against the team’s strong schedule.
AC-S and Station Camp played a virtually even first 12 minutes. The Bison broke the scoreless tie at the 4:33 mark on a two-yard run to cap their second possession of the game. Moments later, Station Camp surprised the Patriots with an onside kick and recovery. However, in an early bright spot, the Patriots held their own forcing a field goal attempt–an attempt that missed the mark.

Things went downhill quicker than a skier on the slopes in the second quarter for the Patriots. Just over two minutes into the period, the Bison added their second score on a 25-yard pass play. After stopping the Patriots on the next possession, a 59-yard punt return score and extra point gave the Bison a 21-0 lead with 8:45 left in the first half.
Almost immediately, Station Camp was back in the end zone. On the Patriots’ second play following the Bison kick, AC-S’s quarterback Josh Williams’ pass was picked for a return and score. The Gallatin school added a fifth score at the 5:57 point of the period. The extra point increased the Bison lead to 35-0 and started the running clock provision for the remainder of the game.

Station Camp added a pair of touchdowns in the final 29 minutes. A late first half touchdown gave the Bison a 41-0 lead at the break with an early third quarter score increasing their lead to 48-0.
AC-S would not be shut out. With 8:30 left, sophomore quarterback Cannon Hood connected with senior Ryan Hensley for a 66-yard touchdown.
Senior Brayden Holland led the Patriots on the ground. Holland had 40 yards on 11 carries. In addition to Hood’s 66 yards on his touchdown toss, Williams completed three passes for 31 yards. Hensley had two receptions for 87 yards with Greyson Walker and Bladen Beavers also catching passes for a combined 10 yards.

Defensively, Edy Chavez was in on six tackles with Laken Clark in on 3.5 stops. Chavez punted the ball six times for an average of 31.2 yards per kick.
AC-S (0-1) will seek a win Friday night when Monroe County (1-0) comes to Patriot Stadium. The Falcons open the season with a 43-8 win over Warren Central. Against the Dragons, the Falcons threw for 146 yards while rushing for 230. Kickoff will be at 7 Friday night.
