Tornado Blows Past Patriots in District Action

De’Antre Grainger’s 70-yard kickoff return last week against the Paducah Tilghman Blue Tornado was the only AC-S score of the night. This week, AC-S returns to District play with a critical match up Friday at Warren East. (File photo by Don Meador).

The Allen County-Scottsville Patriot football team could not muster an attack against the powerful Blue Tornado of Paducah Tilghman on the gridiron last Friday. AC-S lost for the sixth time this season, dropping a 48-7 decision to the reigning 4-A state champions.
The hosts were in charge for the entire game. Tilghman’s first score came at the 10:55 mark of the first quarter. Just under four minutes later, the Blue Tornado added a second touchdown on a 19-yard pass play. A third first quarter score came at the four-minute mark–a touchdown that started with a fumble recovery.
AC-S turned the ball over a second time moments later, which led to a fourth Tilghman score. The Blue Tornado added a fifth first quarter touchdown with seconds remaining in the first. Once again, a Patriot turnover gave the hosts a short field to work with and the Tornado quickly scored.
With the clock running the rest of the game, AC-S’s only score came as the second half started. De’Ante Grainger sliced and diced his way for a 70-yard kickoff return. Paducah Tilghman added two touchdowns for the final margin.
AC-S (0-6, 0-2) faces a critical game this week when the squad travels to Warren East (1-5, 0-2). In the six-team District–AC-S, Calloway County, Franklin-Simpson, Logan County, Paducah Tilghman, Warren East)–a third District loss with two District games remaining would leave the Patriots in a dire playoff situation. Any hopes of reaching the playoffs this year would hinge on wins over Calloway County and Franklin-Simpson and most likely help along the way.
Warren East enters Friday’s game riding a three-game-losing skid. However, the Raiders are scoring points. In the past four games, Warren East scored 40 in a win at Central Hardin as well as 45 in a 58-45 loss to Warren Central, 36 in a 57-36 loss at Calloway County, and 36 in a 42-36 loss against Franklin-Simpson last week.
Friday’s game will have a 7 p.m. start on the blue tuff at Warren East.
