Basketball scrimmages Saturday, November 22, and Tuesday, Nov. 25, provided the fine tune-ups prior to Lady Patriot and Patriot basketball starting Allen County-Scottsville’s 52nd season on the hardwood.

The Lady Patriots—under new Coach Garry DeWitt—completed their scrimmage schedule November 22 at Crittenden County. DeWitt 3.0—the term DeWitt has acquired with this being his third time at the AC-S helm—starts the season on Monday, Dec. 1 with JV/V action at 6 p.m. at Patriot Gym against the Marion County Lady Knights. Marion County is coming off an 11-17 season.

AC-S launches the season looking to improve upon last season’s 15-13 worksheet. Six seniors—Kennedy Carter, Allison Ford, Addy Law, Kyra Marr, Payton Marr and Danica Patrick—will lead the way. Also, a key player for the Lady Patriots is junior Avery Morris.

Last week, Morris was selected as the second-best player in Region 4 according to coaches voting in The Courier-Journal Preseason Coaches Ratings. Morris is coming off a season in which she averaged 23.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. The 23.5 point average ranks first all-time for points average per season. Morris starts the season fourth on the all-time scoring list for the Lady Patriots.

The Patriots’ scrimmages on November 22 and November 25 will help second-year Coach Jeremy Garrett answer any lingering questions about his team with the start of the season looming. AC-S’s seniors include D.J. Frields, De’Ante Grainger, Jonah Hamby, Kyler Pedigo and Tyler Turner. Pedigo was ranked as the fifth best player in Region 4 in The Courier-Journal’s preseason coaches’ poll. Pedigo, a 6’0 shooting guard, averaged 18.2 points and 5.4 rebounds last season—both team highs for the Patriots.

The boys open their 25-26 campaign on Monday, Dec. 1 with road JV/V games at Franklin-Simpson. The Wildcats posted an 11-14 record last season compared to the Patriots’ 11-18 worksheet. Franklin-Simpson’s top player is senior shooting guard Jakai Partinger, ranked 10th among Region 4 players in The Courier-Journal rankings.

More in depth previews of the Lady Patriots and Patriot teams are forthcoming in a future edition of the paper.
